Passion Fade 2012 acrylic paint & acetate approx. 13" x 17" x 4"
Venezuela-born and New york city based artist Kris Scheifele has created a fabulous series of paints made entirely of layer upon layer of acrylic paintThese abstract paintings called "Fades", not only are a temporal record created by the build-up of layers, but also, the paints are sagging, stretching, and bending over time. The result of Scheifele’s work is an interesting expression of art that rides the line between painting and sculpture.

Scheifele tells holyholyfashion "The inspiration for this project came while working with layers of oil paint on a support—canvas and wooden panels. The drying time was phenomenal and I'm not that patient. I experimented with cutting into and distressing the oil paint, but then I thought acrylic paint might work better. The first time I tried this, I pulled the slab of layered acrylic paint halfway off its wooden panel support—it looked like the painting was sticking its tongue out at me. It hung on my studio wall that way for about a week. Then I peeled the whole thing off and cut it up. The strap-like pieces ended up in knots, like a circus contortionist, but with some long 'straps' connecting the knotted-up bits. That was a good day! Then I just kept pushing these layered paint slabs to their limit, which I haven't really reached yet."
